Sunday Painting

Stella, 12" x 12" oil on canvas panel.

This is the painting I did from 1-3 p.m. today with a few good artist friends hanging out to chat with me and with each other. I can see lots to tweak and fuss with.... maybe later. Stella's my sweet, funny and adorable 17 year old niece. The photo reference below was taken February of last year as she was reading.

The 2 video recordings, each an hour long, of this painting are at www.ustream.tv/channel/susancarlin.
Because of David Darrow's help, I'll have much better video quality for future Sunday sessions. Thank you David!

My shallow nature leads me to comment that Stella has been blessed in the hair department. She has excellent hair!

Hope you and Prof. J. are well.

Susan,
It was so great to hang out and watch you paint. Those values and color, (I know, I had to say color) is spot on, as they say! I'm so envious of your ability to capture a likeness so quickly. Thanks again for a great afternoon!

Hi Susan! Thank you so much again for the most enjoyable time, yesterday, watching you paint. I really appreciate your comments about colors, values, brushes, composition, etc, while you paint... They are very valuable for me. I'm looking forward to "meeting up" with you again next week! This painting of Stella turned out FANTASTIC! I really like the dark rectangle in the background, it makes the composition spot on!

Hi Susan, I really appreciate that you take time away from your family on Sunday to paint for us. It's really fun and you teach us a lot. I wish I had your talent. Paint again soon, ok?

Oh, Mrs. G., it's true, it's true. Not that you're shallow, but that Stella has excellent hair.

Beverly... wonderful that you were with me yesterday... and fun to 'see' you at Dave the Painting Guy's show tonight. How did you fare in Gustav's wake?

Missing you, too, Jo. When do you return? Will you be back for APS's first meeting?

Theresa- it's hard to imagine I have anything of value to offer you...you paint so well. But I love that you hung out with me yesterday. I'm flattered as heck.

Sharon- glad you were there...for a while. How was dinner?

Aw, Sharon... I hate to interrupt your dinnertime. I just hadn't planned on a viewer in England!

Artbrush Pete, you are so kind. I promise you I'm enjoying painting in the company of other artists and friends, you among them. Thank you for that.
