Video of Demo Portrait of Henry

This is the recording I made Tuesday night at the Trinity Art League when I painted a demonstration of an oil portrait. Henry Cardenas was the model.
This was an over 400 MB file, compressed to 87 MB in order to be able to post the whole hour, so the video quality isn't the best (maybe that's a blessing?), but Barbara Pask said she could take a whole hour, so ok... here it is! Be careful what you ask for, Barb.
I really like what David Darrow is doing at UStream with DaveThePaintingGuy.com The video quality is GREAT. I'll try to figure out what it would take. Problem with that way is ... no editing. Yikes!

Hi Susan, I watched every minute of the video. I'm still amazed at how dark the darks are you put in the face. I have to go darker. Thank you for the demo, I felt like I was there.

Omigosh, Barb, thank you for watching the whole darned thing! I really am going to figure out the hand-held palette thing so I'm not mixing paint off screen for the bulk of the video. Yeah, dark. Most folks are reluctant to lay in those darks. Go for it! You can do it!

I like Henry! Great portrait. Your speed and the way you capture people is amazing. I couldn't watch the whole video today. We are in a hotel and I am using Gene's computer so my computer time is scarce. I skimmed it and will watch it all next week. Thanks.

Jo, you're not obligated to watch any more of that video. It won't change your life or anything. Thank you for even skimming it a bit! Why are you in a hotel, by the way? I thought you had a place to be there. Hmmmm.

Excellent! You've given one of the most succinct, yet thorough portrait painting lessons I've seen, even by those who've been using oils for ions. Once you'd finished the preliminary drawing, you had it. The rest was icing on the cake. I'm still amazed at the confidence with which you approach a portrait. No hemming or hawing around, you just move right ahead and in no time flat, you've nailed it.
You really have a jewel here in this demo, both in the demonstration itself, the teaching you're done and the quality of the portrait. Congratulations.

Aw, Dianne, you're awfully nice to say that. I really do want to make a video someday that manages to show and say what I mean to show and say. This one was one of those "while I'm demonstrating, why don't I turn on the recorder?" ones. But your words are encouraging and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Hi Susan,
I just finished watching your demo portrait of Henry. What an inspiration. You are so fast and the finished portrait is excellent. Thanks for the tips on blogging too, that you mentioned in the video. You are such a talented artist.
