Braids

This was a fun little painting to do. 6x6 on gessobord. The polka-dots were a bit of a challenge, but I like how they look now. I'm working on a 6x8 on canvas panel of the Riverwalk. Talk about challenge! I'm way out of my comfort zone. I'll let you know how I manage.

I love the perspective...this could be one of my daughters.

Thank you Ann and Veronica! This is just a bit of a departure for me, but I may try to paint more of this sort of idea.

I sincerely love that little curling braid, how darling. And the little peek of ear... Makes me miss my daughter's younger years, even though they're not so long ago.

Way to go, Susan. Those polka-dots are on the money. Strong gesture in the shoulders and back, too. Love the ear. And love the way you modulated the color in the dress.

Thank you, Frank, Jo, K and Dianne!
It's so great when something I struggled with works out in some way. Frank, I can't take credit for the angle- it was someone else's photo of their daughter- but I can take credit for recognizing the good composition, right? Jo- I really did work at putting a stroke down and leaving it alone. Simplicity that almost hurts! Dianne, changing the color and value of the fabric and polka-dots as it moves around the figure was the biggest challenge, so thank you for saying it worked!

Really like this one...great composition. I'll bet the polka dots were a challenge! You've done an especially nice job with this. The way the blouse changes depth of color as it moves around the shape of the body is perfect. Well done.
