Wednesday night's painting- Profile

I think the colors in this image are just a bit off from the original, but are close enough to post.
This painting was such a pleasure to do. It went fairly smoothly and the company was excellent.
With Barbara Pask's help, I actually managed to record the painting of this one in three videos at www.ustream.tv/channel/susancarlin . If you're new to the site, you might need to know to scroll down a bit until you find the video you want to play, double click it then scroll back up to watch it.

I told everyone I'd be painting again next Wednesday, but was reminded that I have a commitment to paint for the Randolph Art League next Wednesday, so I'll paint online next on Monday, February 2nd. I hope you'll come by and join the fun!

Hi Susan,

I like this serious portrait - the flash of pink on highlighting the forehead and ear.

Hi Susan,

sorry rushing. That should read the
flash of pink highlighting the forehead and ear.

Take care,

Barbara

Great work

Ahh, this came out great. Nice brush strokes and background. Some viewers may not know how important the background is to the mood and finish of the painting. Very nice, Susan!

I like this even more now that I see it posted. Love all the colors I see in the background too, couldn't really see that on ustream.

Susan, you took a simple photo and made poetry from it.
I like the point you made in chat about drawing faces to hone one's skills, since we're hardwired to recognize facial attributes.

Lovely, Susan. I especially enjoy how you modulated your warm/cool hues in the background and how they support the vibrancy of your skin tones. This one is really special.

i agree Susan, you've elevated something in this portrait, the painting says way more than the photo...i wonder what is he thinking... the warm/cool tonal changes of the skin & ears keep the viewers eye circulating which works well too.
