Thought I was finished... Dottie.

Well, I worked on this painting all day and was convinced I was done until I just resized the photo to post. Now I see that the bridge of her nose is the teensiest bit too wide. Sigh. I'll correct that in the morning, but in the meantime... here's Dottie so far.

Wonderful, Susan!! Were you working from a black and white photo? Reminds me of a picture of my Mom and a friend in St. Louis during WWII, with big flowers in their hair. It's amazing how much work you get done in a day! Can't wait to come down in a month or so and see your studio.

love to watch your paintings evolve. I've also experienced the same thing...thought I was done until I took the photo and looked at it on the computer screen. Don't know why, but I can then see things that never showed up before! Must be magic!!

Thank you, Regina. Yes, it's from a black and white photo emailed to me. I also have a photo of Dottie at 83, so I have her eye color and was told her hair was brown- more ash than red. For the rest I was on my own. Come on down! I'd love to have your company.

Mrs. G.- I thought the same thing. She's got the look of a Rosie the Rivetter- one of those women I admire who can rise to any occasion.

Thanks, Marsha. It's weird, isn't it? Until I see it on the monitor, I don't really know how I'm doing. Stepping back helps, but it still lies to me.

I knew I should have looked at the previous post.. Very impressive though that you can create the skin tones from your experience and imagination - it looks really great!

Susan, the colors you selected for her dress and it's collar are perfect. They really help establish a period.

i really like this as well; I don't see a problem with the nose. I was attracted to it with it's retro use of color. very nice
