Video of Acrylic Cowgirl, 8" x 10" on panel

Ok, I suffered all the way through this. I'd mixed some of the Liquitex Matte Super Heavy Gel into my little piles of acrylics with a palette knife, had a photo on the monitor and a cup of water at the ready, then dove in. Nothing behaved as I thought it might. I whined and complained all the way through the painting of it, so I decided to speed the video up and replace the audio with music. Trust me. Be glad I did.

(The little blob of paint I point out is black. On Tuesday I couldn't seem to make a decent black with the colors I had.)

I actually kind of like the odd little painting in an odd sort of way. Now, I mean. I left her glasses off. It was busy enough, I thought.

This video is less than two minutes long. Oh, I forgot to put the music in the credits: Joe Weed- Eastern Meadowlark.

Good Morning, Susan,
I enjoyed your video and I think it's a wonderful painting! I certainly know what frustration is, but your frustration should have turned into joy when the painting was complete. I love the painting with all it's bold and beautiful colors. The one of Alicia is great, too!

I finally got my Blog List started and you're on it.

I totally enjoyed that. Wish I could paint that fast ;-)

I would not mind watching the slow version with all of the commentaries some day either.

You gave her a much more cowgirl-esque facial expresssion in the painting than in the photo - something about the faraway look in her eyes. I love watching the way you fill up large areas and then go back and refine. If you speed up the video any more, you'll have to use "Flight of the bumlebee" for the soundtrack!

Wow, what a ride! I wouldn't mind it just a little bit slower, but then I tend to be a bit like a turtle when it comes to watching good stuff, and what good stuff this is!

Thank you, Ann! You're on mine, too. I DO like it better than I thought I would the whole time I was painting it. It seemed pointless to keep painting at the time!

Thanks, Frank. I'll try to do a real-time one soon. It may just have to be the sketch and painting just part of the painting because the file size of the recording can be so large it's frustrating to post. Even the little ones take a LONG time to upload.

Thanks, Sarah. I'm trying to be more deliberate about deciding the general value levels of a composition and getting those down first, so it's neat that you noticed that.

Thank you, Dianne. I promise a slower one soon. I'm painting a woman from life today at the gallery and have brought my camera and tripod, so we'll see what happens.

I like the style of this painting different from your oil portraits,I like the way the colors don't merge as much almost abstract. Acrylics just take some getting used to.

Susan - I had such a good time taking a break from working on taxes to watch your amazing videos. It is awe-inspiring to see your confidence in your strokes (duly earned!), and the end results are wonderful. Really interesting to watch - thanks for sharing the process with us!!
