The Acrylic Portrait and Portrait of Alicia

This is the 9" x 12" acrylic portrait from the video... after fussing with it a bit more last night.
This evening I picked up some goop that is supposed to slow the drying time of acrylics, so I'll let you know how it works...

11" x 14" oil on canvas Yes! panel.
Alicia's a student who spent the day with me today. She wasn't really feeling like working on her super-sized pastel double figure painting, so was willing to sit for an oil portrait. Oh happy me! Doesn't Alicia look regal?

I love the drama in the first. Nicely done.

Alicia is regal as you say. Nice work, Susan. You are accomplishing so much.

I think when you paint as well as you do the medium doesn't make a lot of difference. Now that you've just completed one painting in oil and one in acrylic can you tell a big difference in the look of them?

Thank you, Jo. I'm learning so much.
Barbara, I know that when I was trying to learn oils after years of painting in pastel I was just as lost as I feel trying to paint with acrylics. So I imagine if I kept working at it, I'd figure it out eventually. The difference seems to be all about the drying time and so the ability to blend with what you painted a minute ago. I thought the gel would slow the drying more. It said it would... but I may have gotten an extra 2 minutes tops.

There's something distinctly fine about this particular portrait. Not only is it technically good, you've given her a far away look that is really compelling.

Davethepaintingguy, are you watching? Susan's given you something to admire.

The girls portrait is really excellent and as a Barbara says you can't really tell the difference between the mediums. Keep at it Susan, you are up for the challenge.
