A finish and a start

Today I expected to paint most of the day and ended up only painting maybe two hours at the very end- this start on an 18 x 24 oil on stretched canvas. Talked with a lot of people and enjoyed it. Karen came down to have lunch with me and brought in burgers from Guadalajara Grill. Mmm. I got my webcam and mic working and got to talk with my Dad once or twice today. Sent images to Kinko's for cards. Pamela came in with her husband Jim to pick up extra paintings. She painted at the studio yesterday and did the sweetest small square painting of chiles.
I finished this small painting (11 x 14 oil on stretched canvas) on Thursday and brought in a gold frame with black liner to put it in. Just the liner shows on this image.
This is what it looked like from the doorway as I was closing up at six.
I've come home tuckered out each of the four days I've worked there this week, but very happy. Saw patients on Wednesday and one yesterday. We even made a good start yesterday on putting our house back together after the chaos of gallery opening and trying to lay laminate floor in Mo's room at the same time. Had to hire the completion of the floor done on Wednesday. Just couldn't have the bedroom furniture in the living room one more day.
Sunday is going to be pure laziness if all goes my way. But I'm excited to get back to the wedding couple painting on Monday!

The dog painting is great. I like the composition. The wedding portrait is starting off well.

This all sounds so great! A good kind of exhaustion. We get home tomorrow. We are in Ft. Stockton tonight. Strange place, wonder what keeps it going?? It is just a stop at some crossroads I guess. About the halfway spot for us when we travel on I-10 from NM. Hmmm.

GOOD SUNDAY

. Who ..... Still look at the world with the eyes of a child amazed
Who .............. Sa open their hearts to love ..
Who ... Unfolded its wings to discover new heavens and not satisfied the quiet life ...
Who knows ................... hear the words and even more silence
Who .......................... Always has time for a hug
Who .... Experienced pain and for this reason loves life more ...
Who knows ... smile with eyes and hearts know why the price of tears ..... women like me, the first fairs of wrinkles because speak of a life lived full hands ... and men who know how to love for what they are ...
Who ... Has his heart wounded but never tires of travel to the island that is not ...
Who ........................ Has a crazy dream in the tray ...
Who ... No longer dreams but does not give up and try again ... and finally ...
Good day my prejudice souls ... That life is gentle with us and with the people you love ...
TO ALL YOU HAPPY SUNDAY. :-)) LINA

I like the start of the wedding couple. In fact, I like it just the way it is.

I do love that dog on the Victorian couch! :)

I'm out of sorts today because one of my portrait clients contacted me about making their child's "smile" wider. I'm down in the dumps, not just because I will have to work some more on it, but because I will be making it look worse.
I found this site of a young portrait artist here in Richmond and she puts into words what I try, but fail, to convince my clients of.

The wedding couple looks great! It's so interesting to see our process, and you move along so quickly. I would have to take a photo of the beginning and take another about two weeks later to show any progress at all!

That's "your" process, not "our" process. Just wanted to make sense. :)

Thank you, Jo, Laura, Inquiries and Bag Blog! Laura, thanks for the great link to Christy Talbott's site. I know just what you mean by the requests from the ones commissioning portraits. I struggle between allowing them ownership and wanting ownership myself. After all, it's my signature on the painting! But they did pay for it, so it has to be a sort of odd collaboration (damn it!). I try to influence their thinking to fall closer in line with my own concerning wider smiles and the like. Sometimes it works. Hang in there!
