This painting is an 8 x 10 oil on canvas panel, of the daughter of an acquaintance with a great blog called Bean Paste. She graciously allowed me to use one of her photos as a painting reference. Today was blustery and chilly and wet off and on, so I painted indoors and listened to an ebook on the studio computer as I painted. Heaven. I'll go back on Monday and see what revisions and additions it might need. Thank you, Melanie!
Small, sweet painting today

BUONA GIORNATA
BUONA GIORNATA ...LINA
Susan!
The painting is lovely! I am floored by your talent. I particularly love the brush strokes on her hair and face: so precise and confident..it's hard to believe you've never met in person, because you've perfectly captured that kid. Amazing.
Warmest wishes,
Melanie
Beautiful, Susan! I have two little daughters and the pose and atmosphere of this portrait just makes me love my own kids more. So sweet.
Thank you Melanie and Angela. You couldn't have said anything nicer to me. I did adjust a couple of things on this painting today when I went to the studio and then signed it and framed it and hung it. It got such nice responses from the visitors all day. Thank you again Melanie for the great photo!
Update: I showed the image to Ellie, just to see if she'd recognize herself, and she said, "Oooh, poor Ellie. She's so SLEEPY."
Oh, that's so great. Thanks for telling me, Melanie. I posted the finish on the painting of her in my most recent (2-19-08) entry. Not too different, just a few touches. Thank you again for letting me paint from your photo!
I looked at that, and thought, Ellie! I'd know those cheeks anywhere. Beautiful.
