(I have frames to fit this painting, too, if you're interested.)

I had so much fun painting with my bloggy artist friends yesterday! Pattie Wall painted along in Kansas at the same time I painted, and Sharon Wright in England painted the same image afterwards. They've both posted their paintings on their blogs, so you can check them out!

I have to say, though, that after painting I got up and left the room and when I came back was horrified to find this on my easel:

The wide, wide head and too-high ear stared me in the face. Sigh. So today I fiddled with it at the gallery and like it better (top image) now. I suppose it's not crucial to be correct since it's not a commission... but my pride demanded a few more minutes spent on it.
I'm going to paint again on Ustream.tv next Sunday at 1 p.m Central time. Come join us!

Today I also worked a while on the commission of the man and his horse. Mostly just on the man's face. I made some progress, but there are many more hours of work left to do.

When I saw the photo of the dog prior to your paint out, I *knew* it was going to be an awesome portrait, and it sure is! Great job on the commission (so far) too! Bravo!

Hi Susan, Your doggie came out great, I love that touch of red in his eye. Your commission is coming out so good, they'll be very pleased with it I know. Do you send progress photos as you go along on it? Can't wait for another painting session next Sunday, yeah.

Isn't it amazing what a difference an accurate eye and a sure hand can make in editing! You got him breathing, Susan. I probably tire you saying that but you manage it every time.

I agree with Dianne - you have him breathing. I love his eyes. Great job. I really enjoyed the demo - can't wait for the next one.

Hi Susan, this dog turned out so cute!
Thank you for the links, I love seeing the same motive from different artists.

Looks like fun, sorry I missed the party. It is nice to see the different work on the subject. Your horse and man is coming along nicely, too.

Don't you hate it when that happens? (Reentering the studio after a few minutes and feeling shocked, that is.) I don't think it was as bad as all that, though! The finished product is GREAT, and I'm sure you will sell it quickly to someone who just adores that specific kind of dog. The fur looks so furry, and I love the little touches of blue - especially in the nose.

Thank you Everyone!
Belinda, I'm so glad you stopped by and I appreciate your confidence.
Barbara, yes, I send progress images along the way as I work on a commission so they can see it developing. I'm SO glad you're going to be there this Sunday!
Dianne- tire of praise? Me? Ever? Heavens, no! I'm glad I had a chance to fix the fellow.
Karen, I'm so glad my "pep talk" was met with a continuation with oils... your pool balls painting is looking GREAT! See you Sunday!
Susajo, I'm glad you got to see Pattie and Sharon's paintings- I like to see various renditions on a theme, too. Thanks for visiting!
Jo, we missed you Sunday, for sure. Hope to "see" you this coming one!
Sarah- Yes I hate that. But it's so predictable, you'd think I'd make myself get up and out more often so I could regain some fresh eyes! Glad you noticed the blue. It was the last thing I did on the painting and I thought it helped. You think it will sell? What sort of dog is it, anyway? I'll hang it at the gallery and see if someone will want it....

The dog looks so good - the corrections you made brought it closer to the photo, but it was great then and now. Thank you for letting us join you!
