Santa's Sangria

12 x 12 oil on canvas panel- sold
This is the painting I started on Tuesday during the Ustream.tv session. I spent another hour on it last night repainting the hand and adding some details elsewhere. I sure like this guy's twinkle.
The painting below is the palette knife portrait I did on last week's Ustream.tv session. I spent another hour on this one last night, too. I think the color is a little off true on both these photos, but close enough to show you what I've been up to.
I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgivings. I'm thankful for this community of vital, happy supportive artists I'm a part of here. Thank you all for caring to come by and visit!

Hi Susan,

These are both beautiful, and I love
the red. (That's one of my favorite
colours). Great portraits as usual.
I'm thankful to be part of a blogging
community that includes wonderful people like you.

Take care,

Barbara

Thank you so much, Barbara! I'm enthralled with your amazing portraits. Such intense color- I'd love to come paint with you and see if I could "go there."

Hi there Susan, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your sweet daughter. I love both of these, I bet they were thrilled with the portrait painting of their granddaughter. Santa is really special, I think we all should paint our Christmas cards every year, he should be yours this year if it's not too late.

I like the paintbrush behind his ear, Susan. Nice touch. And I see Santa didn't hold back at the Thanksgiving table, he looks well nourished.
Love your little girl. I can't believe what you can accomplish with a palette knife!

Hi Susan,
Just love the Santa, I guess it's too hot down your neck of the woods for mulled wine-hence the Sangria!
Love the little girl too I'm amazed that you painted her with a knife you are so clever.
One day,I have promised myself I'm gonna get a few lessons from you in person.

That has the look of a Cocoa Cola Santa. I'm a Pepsi man but still like the painting.

Yes, Bill, this Santa's reference was one of the old Coca Cola Santas. I replaced his bottle with a wine glass. Since I know Santa would never drink and drive, he must be winding down from his trip around the world. And the paint brush behind his ear? He's already at work on next year's toys!

Hi Susan, I would love to hear more about the business side of portraiture. Any chance you would want to talk about that in a post? Specifically I'm wondering what are some of the best ways to get commissions? I have tried a number of things and have gotten a few but I'm thinking there is a better way. I could be wrong. :)
I LOVE the dog portrait you did, he's fabulous!
